• Can be broken down by high-tech, low-tech, and no-tech

• Can be broken down by defense, monetary, food, energy, health

• The list of resources is long… as physical prepping is mostly about obtaining resources while they are still attainable

Pros:

• If a violent war breaks out, the preppers will have an advantage over non-preppers

  • Preparedness in all ways is the foundation for any battle front.

• Prepping fosters local commerce, which lessens power to our enemies

• There are some high ROI prepping actions that everyone can easily take

• Some preppers turn their prepping into businesses, which can be a double benefit

• Some prepping is an enjoyable hobby for double benefit

Cons:

• No direct action or gains against our common enemy

• Prepping does not actually fix anything in the present

• Preppers spend a lot of time predicting potential futures, instead of dealing with reality now.

• If we were all self sufficient farmers, we would be erasing thousands of years of human progress

• There is very little force multiplying

• The enemy may just come and SWAT anyone at anytime anyway

• Can be very time consuming and expensive

• Farming requires a lot of knowledge, experience, and resources

• Prepping activity may never actually be used

• While many are living more carefree lives, preppers seem to be busy all the time, and do not enjoy life’s luxuries.

• While some may focus on one prepping type (water, or food), they may totally neglect energy, or money, or health.. In which case, all their prepping may be useless anyway without one resource.

  • The prepping activities may never align with the calamites we face

• Significant prepping decisions are based on low probability future predictions, but can have high impact to current life

  • examples: moving away from loved ones, leaving high paying professions, making commitments to animals.

• Physical prepping without considering all the other types of prepping (Spiritual, Education, Legal, Financial, Health, Defense) can lead to a breakdown from the weakest link in the chain that was never prepared for.

Risks:

• Time and money traps are common in prepping

• Without sufficient hiding skills, preppers may be labeled as hoarders

• Without good relations with locals, preppers may be targeted

• Secrecy is helpful for prepping, but also distracts from fixing local issues

Failed Tactics :

• Goats, Dogs, and other animals that cost far more to maintain than ever would return

• Random farming, without proper education and resources, such as using fertilizer, irrigation

• Failing to obtain the basics FIRST

  • Toilet Paper.. We have already seen the world run out of toilet paper once before. I know some full-time preppers who have no toilet paper stocked! The ROI on stock-piling toilet paper is very high

    • High Utility/Demand - everyone needs it.

    • High Probability of running out - requires trees, manufacturing, trucks, roads, distribution

Deeper:

• When is enough prepping, enough prepping ?

  • When it is obvious that more prepping does nothing to change our odds of living anyway.

• Defense: Picture any sport, or military battle where the team only has defense.. The defense will lose every time. We can't even build a defensive wall on the US border that works. The wall doesn't work when the power is given to those who just open the gate.
